Pillar 02
How the TIA Score works
A single 0-100 score with a letter grade, built from six independently computed layers; nothing is a black box.
Six layers
What the score is made of.
Every score is the weighted sum of six layers. The standard weighting is for general commercial and residential property; the oil & gas sector profile re-weights where the threat picture looks different.
| Layer | Standard weight | Oil & gas sector weight | How it is assessed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crime Intelligence | 30% | 18% | Each nearby crime event decayed by distance (squared falloff to a 1,600m radius) and age, weighted by severity, run through a logistic curve to 0-100. Violent, property, and disorder crimes called out separately. |
| Environmental (CPTED) | 15% | 17% | Lighting, sight lines, landscaping, CPTED compliance, ingress/egress control, natural surveillance, territorial definition; any sub-score under 50 flagged with specific remediation. |
| Infrastructure | 20% | 23% | Access control type sets a base ceiling, scaled by condition; camera coverage is multiplied by camera quality, so wide coverage of poor cameras doesn't score as protection. |
| Incident History | 15% | 20% | Severity-weighted incidents with time decay; unresolved incidents count double; response times over ten minutes and any critical-severity incident surface as their own factors. |
| Operational | 12% | 17% | Staffing, armed status, patrol frequency, response time, quarterly training hours, certified-staff percentage, documented emergency plan, incident reporting system. |
| Community Intelligence | 8% | 5% | Resident/tenant safety reports weighted by relevance to the location, aggregated into a sentiment score. |
Data confidence
The score knows what it doesn’t know.
Every score ships with completeness, freshness, and confidence sub-scores plus an explicit list of missing/stale inputs; low confidence caps the maximum achievable score. No data is not the same as no risk — an unlogged location returns a flagged neutral placeholder, never a clean bill of health.
Grade bands
From A+ to F.
Thirteen grade bands against the 0–100 raw score. Bands are stable across model versions; the score behind them is not.
